manwar999: gundog5...try this ( karam method ) hand drill two stick fire…I have had 100% success rate in achieving ember fires using this karam method…I think this is a breakthrough in hand drill fire making in this decade…this is the video url: http://youtu.be/VQ5lg3OONVo

David West: How bout that EDC spindle stop... your toe until divot starts.... I guess the embers would be easy enough to coax out into the bird's nest with a knife?

David West: Oh Yeah, I had forgotten about these. LOL! Well at least I liked it way back when I watched it. The like button is already highlighted.

Dawn Sotir: Looks like sycamore? Very nice Bowdrill!

ja pak: willow ?

gundog5: You can also set a piece of wood on top as a guard (to step on) if you don't want to scuff your shoe/ boot. Good luck!

Wintertrekker: Nicely done! I have had trouble getting the spindle started, as it wanders. Ended up cutting a notch which is a hassle. But your angled "under-the-shoe" technique is brilliant! I will try that!

Ironbarkbushkraft: Very nice man, their two solid embers! I've never seen that before, I'll give that a crack for sure. Subbed

gundog5: Hmmm, wet wood can be tough to work with depending on climate & conditions (ie. rain, fog, humidity, etc...). Use wood suspended off the ground (so water drips off). Split the wood to use inner parts that are dry. You can also use body heat to dry the spindle & fireboard, but is time consuming. Pre-heating the set by bowing lightly every few minutes can also steam away any moisture in the wood. Even primitive man kept a dry set to avoid making a set from scratch using less than ideal materials.

Neil Hess: Very cool. Any tips on how to do this when the wood is wet? I live in the northwest...we get 3 hours of sunlight a year in these parts. : )

gundog5: It's an option if you couldn't make a traditional fireboard, like if you didn't have a knife or sharp tool. I find the 2-stick fireboard harder to use effort-wise than a traditional fireboard. You can dump the coal the same way into a tinder bundle. Ya might need a twig or the like to nudge it out of the crack, though. You could also pile punkwood on the coal, but might take longer to get flame.

Shadowmib: Interesting. I'll give that a try. Looks like an easier way to make a fireboard. Doesn't seem like you can dump the coal out of it though. Do you have to pile the tinder on it and blow like crazy to flame up the bundle?

jmulford1337: ur fireboard rox. u gotta be one of the most manliest left handers out there. thanks for sharing gundog

dave12546: great idea tying 2 round sticks together and great video

gundog5: @kpully99 Ha ha, funny! Perhaps I could use a lighter in the house or light a match, a candle, even a cigarette. I think it would be easier to burn down my house using one of these other methods instead. Notice there's no open flame in the vid (just an ember/ coal). Any open flame fires I start are indeed outside. The reason I did this in the house was for an ideal quiet setting to make the video (no ambient noises, wind, etc...). Just so you know, my house is still here, ha ha.

Zac L.: Nice man, the best fire bow vid Ive seen. Thank you

gundog5: @TheSkater1233 The spindle & the 2 sticks that make the fireboard are all made from Longleaf Yellow Pine.

TheSkater1233: is all of it the same type of wood?

kgdblade: Two embers! Awesome man! I usually get it forming by my foot!
